Road trip from Toronto to Calgary in November....

Hello all.

I am spending the coming winter in Canada and want to base my self initially in Alberta at one of the ski resorts. But I have yet to decide how I want to get there. So I am throwing this question out there and would appreciate your opinions and advice.

I have given myself two main options. I will be spending some time in New York mid November and am then thinking of either flying from New York to Calgary and purchasing a car/truck/van there for the rest of my trip... OR... Making my way to Toronto, buying a car/truck/van there and then spending 5/6 days driving through to Calgary via Thunder Bay and Winnipeg and then on to the mountains.
